Bristol Airport Information

Bristol Airport began life on an area of farmland at Whitchurch during 1927. By 1930 the passenger numbers had increased to 4,000 and during the war the airport became the only civil one in operation in the UK.Various operations where switched from Croydon Airport to Whitchurch and a succession of famous people passed through it's terminal inlcuding Winston Churchill. Over three million passengers pass through Bristol International Airport every year on their way to over 50 destinations throughout the world, making it the largest airport in the southwest of England. Major scheduled airlines as well as charter flights are operated through the airport’s single terminal.

Bristol International Airport has one well-equipped terminal that handles all departures and arrivals, with EasyJet and Ryanair operating charter flights to the main European holiday destinations and British Airways and Continental Airlines offering scheduled flights to destinations farther afield. The much improved Arrivals Hall can be found on the ground floor, while the departure lounges are located on the first floor. The terminal building at Bristol International Airport offers visitors a wide range of facilities including information desks, postal services and baby-changing rooms, while bureau de change and ATM cash machines are also spread throughout the airport. Good shopping options are available on both sides of security, with high street names such as WH Smith represented, while a choice of duty-free shopping is also available. Visitors to the airport are offered an excellent choice of refreshment options from fast food such as Burger King and Subway to more upmarket cafés and restaurants.

British Airways and Servisair both offer telephone, fax and internet facilities as well as refreshments at their business lounges, while the airport’s media centre can provide a well-equipped conference room. Although there are no business hotels on-site at the airport, Holiday Inn Bristol Airport is one of many hotels that offer excellent facilities in the city.

Transport and parking at Bristol Airport

Bristol International Airport can easily be reached by shuttle bus, with the Bristol International Flyer running between the airport, Bristol Bus Station and Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station every 30 minutes. From these stations, you can make connections to all parts of the country via National Express coaches or mainline train services. Passengers requiring a more comfortable ride can catch a taxi from outside the terminal building 24 hours a day.

Excellent parking options are provided at Bristol International Airport, with short-stay, long-stay, business and disabled parking all available. Located next to the terminal building is the Rapid Car Park for visitors picking up or dropping off passengers. For longer stays of up to a day, head to the Short-Stay Car Park which is also located next to the terminal. Visitors parking for longer periods can choose between the original Long-Stay Car Park that is reserved for stays of up to 6 days or the Park and Fly Silverzone for stays of over 6 days; online booking is available for both car parks.
